It's a good idea to try new things. Even if you don't like them, at least you know. We're going to try this blog to keep our family and friends updated on what's going on in the life of the Sorem Clan. But who are these people....let's start with the youngest.
Noah Slade was born on February 21, 2005 and is now just over 6 months old. Six month old kids have little intelligible content to add to blogs, so we'll say it for him. He sleeps well (11 to 12 hours a night and 2 naps of 1 to 2 hours), he drinks mommy milk (3 to 4 times a day), he eats cereal (rice or oatmeal 2 times a day), he tried carrots (doesn't love them, doesn't hate them), he tried squash (loves it and opens very wide). He is loving his Jumperoo (by Fisher PriceTM), he is just learning to sit up and he is the happiest just after waking up for the day or from his naps. He has already travelled up to the Bay Area (for Jason McCarthy and Rachel Najafi's wedding) and to New Jersey (for his Uncle Howard and Aunt Stacy's wedding). He is looking forward to a few football games this fall -- Cal v. UCLA (10/8) and USC v. Cal (11/12). His parents are still arguing over whom he is going to root for in the USC v. Cal game....:) Here is a very recent picture of him in his very cute crab outfit from his godparents, Uncle Carl and Auntie Cheryl Alberola!
Andrew Zachary (pictured to the right) just turned 3 years old on August 5th. Three year old kids are like the weather in the desert; they go from extreme highs to extreme lows in no time at all. Andrew embodies a 3 year old. Some things you should know about young Andrew. He has RED hair, like his mother. He LOVES keys. If you present yourself to him, the first question he will ask you is "Where are your keys?" Be ready. If you say that you have keys, he wants your keys. He doesn't want fake keys; he wants the real thing. Once you give him your keys, good luck getting them back! He absolutely LOVES the color green. He loves it so much that for his 3rd birthday party, and at his request, we had a GREEN birthday party. Green hats, green clothes, green plates, green cups, green utensils, lots of green wraping paper, green ice cream (courtesy of his godmother, Theresa Pollock) and even a green picture of Andrew (courtesy of Brigitte Patel). Andrew will be entering his second year of preschool at Beth Am Preschool starting September 6, 2005; he will be in the Orange Gamal class. I've never seen an orange gamal, so I'm looking forward to it. He had a great year last year and we're looking forward to another great year for him.
We are Evan Richard Sorem (now 34....whew) and Robin Wendy Sorem (formerly Rosenbaum, and now 28). We'll post more about ourselves as time goes on, but the basics are below.
Robin was born to Samson and Rhonda Rosenbaum on March 4, 1977 at Tarzana Hospital in Tarzana, California. Robin has one older brother, Howard, who lives in Jersey City with his wife, Stacy Ruth (Klein) Rosenbaum, and sells 401K plans for Commerce Bank. Robin was a very shy as a little girl, but who can blame her given her beautiful RED hair. Much to Evan's chagrin, Robin is a fan of the University of Southern California football and basketball teams. (Maybe it is so much to Evan's chagrin because USC seems to beat up on his team so frequently). Robin is a 1995 graduate of Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, CA (in the lovely San Fernando Valley) and a 1999 graduate of the University of California at San Diego, Thurgood Marshall College (where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience, with a minor in Literature). After working for a few years in the biotech field at Sequenom, Inc., she left to raise Andrew (and now Noah). While her first job after college was nice, her current job is truly a labor of love; while her first job sometimes required long hours, her current job is 24/7.
Evan was born to Richard Larry and Charmy Ann Sorem on August 22, 1971 at Cottege Hospital in Santa Barbara, California. After six months in lovely Santa Barbara, the family moved down to San Diego where Evan has lived most of his life. As a little boy, Evan was constantly getting into fights with his little sister, Karin, who is now a Marketing Manager with Fisher Price in New York City. Evan is a 1989 graduate of Valhalla High School in El Cajon, CA (in the lovely Cajon Valley) and a 1993 graduate of the University of California at Berkeley ("Cal") (Go Bears!). Evan obtained a Bachelor of Science in Political Economy of Natural Resources, with a minor in Business Administration from Cal. Evan just couldn't get enough of school so he went on to get a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings (as his father and Uncle Mike Evans had before him). After law school, Evan moved down to San Diego to take a job with the firm Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich, which has now merged to form DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary. Evan practices business bankruptcy and insolvency law, with an occasional trip to litigation matters. But his favorite thing is watching and learning from Andrew and Noah.
We met on May 13, 1998 at a little cafe in Pacific Beach called Cafe Crema. Interestingly, we tried to go to Cafe Crema for a coffee recently and the cafe is closed down. :( We were married on May 27, 2001 right along Mission Bay at the Catamaran Resort Hotel in Pacific Beach. Our friends and families made the day so very special for both of us. They were there, they told us they loved us and we all celebrated well into the beautiful Southern California night. It is a time we will both never forget.
We try every year to do something special on our anniversary. This past year (#4), since we had new baby Noah, we were only able to go out to dinner (with the little one). Below is a picture of us in our backyard just before we left for dinner. It was a beautiful summer night.
